On Monday, December 1st, I received an email notice from YouTube stating that my fanvid "We Have a Right to Be Angry" had been blocked by Fox Broadcasting, because it contains copyrighted content that was identified using an automated system. After a week of research and anxiety, I removed my video due to my belief that I am financially unprepared for the potential court battle that could result (although it's unlikely). I do believe that my use of said content is covered by Fair Use, a doctrine of US Copyright law that is severely misunderstood and under-used. I am plunging into an R & D phase in order to figure out how to address this in my work. The video in question already has a new meaning in relation to the takedown notice.
